Tofu und Chili is a vibrant gem located at Linke Wienzeile 18 in Vienna, offering an authentic taste of Chinese cuisine that resonates well with both locals and visitors. The restaurant's appeal lies not only in its diverse and flavorful menu but also in its lively atmosphere, often packed with patrons eager to savor its offerings.
Many reviewers, like Grace English, praise the handmade beef noodles, which showcase a delightful chewiness reminiscent of Chinese Muslim culinary heritage. While some dishes may lean towards milder flavors, the menu includes spicy favorites such as the much-lauded chili biang noodles recommended by Catinca Manaila.
With generous portions and reasonable prices, Tofu und Chili strikes a balance, although some diners wish certain classics, like the handmade noodle bowl, were a bit cheaper. Michal Dziendziura notes the rich flavors but suggests a more stylish presentation for the noodle bowls.
For those seeking an authentic Chinese experience, the Sichuan-style eggplant and 大盘鸡 (Dà pán jī) come highly recommended. Overall, Tofu und Chili stands out for its quick service and consistently delicious dishes, making it a must-visit spot in Vienna's bustling food scene.

Reviews for Tofu und Chili
Review highlights
Based on 1,154 reviewsTofu und Chili is widely praised for its authentic and flavorful Chinese cuisine, with particular emphasis on its hand-pulled noodles and richly seasoned dishes inspired by various regional influences. Customers consistently highlight the generous portion sizes and reasonably priced menu, making it an accessible option for those seeking hearty Asian fare in Vienna. Quick service and a steady quality of dishes, such as the spicy biang biang noodles and Sichuan-style specialties, are commonly noted strengths. While the restaurant’s cozy and narrow space may lead to occasional wait times, the overall dining experience is frequently described as satisfying and genuine, appealing to both locals and visitors who appreciate traditional Chinese flavors with a slightly milder spice profile.
A glance at the photos is enough. Anyone who knows their way round Chinese nosh can clock that this place is proper legit. I couldn’t quite place the regional roots of the dishes. Bit of a mash-up. That said, my handmade beef noodles had a whiff of hearty Chinese Muslim cuisine heritage. Bang-on texture, chewy and fresh. Flavorful, yet a bit tame on the spice front? Price-wise, it’s a mixed bag. Many items are fairly priced and generously portioned. But then some are taking the mick - like the handmade noodle bowl, which, by all accounts, is a classic farmer’s meal. Should be cheap as chips, but here it’s going for 13 euros. The locals are clearly wise to it too - the joint is nearly always rammed. So if you’re thinking of popping by, best not rock up at peak time unless you fancy queueing.
Never tried a bad dish here. Quick service, reasonable prices, delicious food. Always eat something here when I’m in Vienna. I personally recommend the spicy cucumber and the chilli biang noodles.
This is one of the best biang biang i have had so far, very rich in flavour and ingrediences. The only thing I would recommend would be more stylish noodle bowls. I will definitely come back for more next time I am in Vienna
大盘鸡(No.34 for hot dishes, begin with Gebratenes…)is absolutely the best food here! Big portion but cheap price and also it tastes super good! Please try this one!
Authentic Chinese Food- The food arrives very quickly, and the dishes are truly authentic Chinese. We had the Sichuan-style eggplant (definitely order rice with it – 10/10!) and the hand-pulled vegetarian noodles, both absolutely delicious. Portions are large, but the restaurant is quite small and narrow. We were lucky to get a table spontaneously in the afternoon, but be prepared to wait for a seat during busy hours.
